A gentle heart is not a heart that has never been hurt. It is a heart that has known sorrow and still chooses kindness.

In Welsh mythology, Branwen is remembered through a story of love, loyalty, separation and heartbreak. A princess whose life became entangled in conflict between kingdoms, her story speaks of the suffering that can arise when pride and anger overshadow compassion.

Yet within her story lies something deeply moving — the enduring strength of a loving heart.

Here, Branwen sits beside the still waters, her flowing robes merging with the colours of sea and sky. Beside her rests a magnificent white raven, its pale feathers catching the moonlight as she reaches out to touch it.

In the ancient tale, Branwen trained a starling to carry a message to her brother across the sea. In this painting, the white raven becomes a symbolic messenger of hope, connection and the love that endures across distance.

Its unusual colouring reminds us that there is beauty in being different, and that gentleness can be a rare and extraordinary strength.

Behind Branwen stands an ancient stone, its spiral carved into the surface — a reminder that healing does not always follow a straight path.
